Every Second
The Red Road runs straight and trueAnd we are expected to
Keep our footprints on it every step along the way
Our life’s test is not a raceIt’s to maintain a state of grace
Every second, every minute, every hour, every day
There will be long slopes to climbAnd rugged spots from time to time
Storms and floods and avalanches, it is fair to say
Our task is to meet each testWith fortitude, to do our best
Every second, every minute, every hour, every day
We are allowed to rest awhileTake a seat upon a stile
To bask in nature’s glory and smell the new-mown hay
It’s no use to reach your goalIf beauty doesn’t stir your soul
Every second, every minute, every hour, every day
Sometimes you will need a handAt others you’ll be in command
Of pilgrims who are weary and battered from the fray
Whether you are up or downRemember all of us are one
Every second, every minute, every hour, every day
The Red Road is hard and farEven so, we never are
Given tasks too difficult, or asked too much to pay
Keep your faith in Spirit strongAnd you will be helped along
Every second, every minute, every hour, every day
Guidance is easy to findTrust your heart to lead your mind
Put aside your ego, as when you kneel to pray
Our power comes when our walkIs consistent with our talk
Every second, every minute, every hour, every day
All of us at times get lostAnd with no regard to cost
Spirit is a shepherd who will hunt for every stray
No matter where we might get shovedAll of us are always loved
Every second, every minute, every hour, every day
