Diddle-Diddle-Dee
When I was sailing back in 93
I saw a mermaid swimming in the sea
One half was fish and the other half was woman
But the female half was doing the swimmin’
And it really was a lovely sight to see
And I thought I’d like to dip my diddle-diddle-dee
She noticed and she called to me
If you want to spawn you must jump down in the sea
My lovely strong legs could climb up there
But my fishy half can’t breathe the air
And I thought that’s reasonable to me
And I’d really like to dip my diddle-diddle-dee
I tied a rope around my waist
And jumped in the water with all due haste
As soon as we joined she made a rapid dive
Thank God for the rope ’cause I’m still alive
The bruise around my waist was a gory thing to see
And she stripped all the skin from my diddle-diddle-dee
Now all young sailors hark to me
There are lots of mermaids swimming in the sea
And it’s better to have a cuddle and a laugh
With the breed that has a woman’s upper half
If you stray below the surface of the deep blue sea
You may lose all use of your diddle-diddle-dee
