Wishes
I wish that I could be
Sitting high in an old gum tree
With my head thrown back laughing merrily
Hearing the whole world laugh with me
I wish that I could be
Ducking and diving in the sea
Flashing my skin so bright and silvery
As the Moon shines down her light on me
I wish that I could be
Flying above so wild and free
With the wind in my wings so shivery
And the breadth of Earth all mine to see
I wish that I could be
Lying in the sun so languidly
A feeling of peace stealing over me
As the breeze ruffles my fur gently
I wish that I could be
A big bright blossom on a tree
Sharing nectar with every bird and bee
Filling the air so fragrantly
I wish that I could be
A rock with water bathing me
Veined and marbled and oh so glisteny
Keeper of all our history
I wish that I could be
Tall and strong as the oldest tree
Rooted in the earth as deep as can be
Limbs stretched to praise Spirit’s glory
Now I am human and I can’t be
All of these marvels that I see
But I can live in loving harmony
With all my earthly family
