The Uniform (Tune - The Unicorn: The Irish Rovers)
We decided to write a hit song. Being of Irish descent we thought it proper that it should be of an Irish nature. It wasn't too far a jump to recognise that it would have its best chance of success if sung by The Irish Rovers. So we sent it over to them. It now appears the cork wasn't tight enough in the bottle and the ink ran. Consequently their version wasn't exactly as we had written it. This is the original.
I got a job in Dublin, to leave it gave me pain

Next day at work I wore my travelling clothes
The boss looked and said 'Eh! You can't wear those'
He took me to the Stores to get the proper sort
But the stocks were running short
