Heart of Hearing
When you hear the magpies singing you think your only hearing birds
When you hear somebody talking you’re only listening to the words
But the words and sounds are just a way
To express the feeling that they’re trying to convey
You’ve got to listen with your heart to hear Spirit say
'There’s a message wrapped inside this tune'
When you see a field of flowers, you think 'Oh what a beautiful sight'
When you see a glorious sunset you’re intent on describing the light
But the beauty and the light are just a ruse
A trick that Spirit is trying to use
To open up your heart and ignite your fuse
To blast away your old cocoon
Us humans are so fond of standing still
Of sitting on the top of our old dung-hill
And we utterly refuse to move until
The foundations start tumbling down
We hang onto what we know with a fearsome grip
Even if it’s the rails of a sinking ship
As if instead of jumping we’d much rather slip
Underneath the waters and drown
So when you hear a magpie singing, understand that it’s a wake-up call
And when you hear somebody talking the words mean nothing at all
When you see a field of flowers so bright
Or watch the sun set every night
That’s Spirit trying to set your soul alight
To burn away your old cocoon
So you can expand into your full birth-right
And inherit your ‘held in trust until mature’ fortune
