Closing the Circle
Take me back to my home town
I want to die in the place I was born
Close the circle where the sky of my evening
Mirrors the one that greeted my dawn
Long have I wandered, far have I travelled
Never found anyplace I could call home
Let me return to the scenes of my childhood
Leave my life there as I once left to roam
Bury me next to my Mother and Father
Cover me gently with deep rich red earth
I’ll peacefully lie with the couple who gave me
The miracle of life; the gift of my birth
Don’t shed tears and don’t strew flowers
Plant a shade tree and water it down
My body will nurture and nourish its growing
My spirit will sing in its leaves when it’s grown
Maybe someday a young boy will listen
Realise staying is not such a chore
You can’t catch a dream if the thing that you’re running
Away from is also what you’re searching for
Take me back to my home town
I want to die in the place I was born
Close the circle where the sky of my evening
Mirrors the one that greeted my dawn
