You Have to Laugh! (Reflections on Growing Old)
Old Brucey and me
(Or I more correctly)
Have problems when we pee
And I don’t shit too well either
When we talk with phone in hand
We have a little moan and
The words Hell and Hand-
Cart are sometimes heard together
Old Brucey and I
Are probably going to die
In the sweet bye-and-bye
Of causes stated: Accidently
The ills for which they pill us
Will most likely never kill us
Chances are a bacillus
Will mutate and destroy humanity
And even as we bang on
And complain and harangue on
We tenaciously hang on
To life by the skin of our teeth
And while we lament the crazies
The zealots and mentally-lazies
It’s better than pushing up daisies
From a position underneath
You have to laugh! And be joyful
And not in self-pity grovel
The alternative’s too awful
For us to even contemplate
Ever since this world started
Life’s not for the faint-hearted
It’s as if God just farted
Us out and left us to our fate
