Healing (Gestalt)
( This song emerged fully formed in a therapy session I had with a very lovely lady who's name I have unfortunately forgotten. The session was taped so I know it happened exactly as written here.) Come along, come along Everybody come along and see What is happening to me Do you know all the story That happened to the poor little boy? Can you hear; can you see; can you feel What happened back then? No I can't. I always sit in the blackness Blind, and deaf, and dumb Without feelings But sometimes, I let it all happen … Maybe we're going to get something different Out of this, than we started wanting Maybe we're going to get something different Something we didn't expect Maybe we're going to be able to see All the pictures we've hid since we were three And we haven't let them out, because We kept them in the hole Our soul - We kept it behind a great big wall We built it about a million miles tall And we didn't let any of it out, at all And so maybe, what's going to happen, We're going to open our eyes, and let it out Open our brain Take away the wall; take away the blinds Time to let the small boy see again See again. See again Like he used to see When he was three And maybe what we're going to do Is take the wall right down And allow ourselves to clown around. (You get a double rhyme for the price of one) And maybe we're going to lift the blinds And throw open all the shutters Let the light stream into our beautiful room With the easel, and the paints And the pencils, and the crayons, and the glue Maybe we're going to open up The attic and the cellar We're going to see everything That made this little fellow Shut down when he did And it's going to be like opening the lid On a Jack-in-the-box Everything pops out like cocks! Pox!Everything comes out Everything bursts into the air Like a flare Sharing All the pretty colours with everybody else It's going to be so lovely When we let it all come out Let it all go; let it all … Let ourselves see And hear And be ourself Just a trillion of us living inside of me All of us All the bits and pieces That I hid away and wouldn't see All of us can join together Into one person Who's known as MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE And I won't have to keep the straight jacket on I can take it off and throw it on the scrap heap I can take off the jacket with the laces and the whalebone And throw it on the scrap heap We'll build a bonfire - build it high Set it alight so the sparks flow to the sky And we'll watch, and dance around, and sing And have a lot of fun Everything will be fine We'll all be gay We'll all be happy every day And we'll all sing together in the same voice Not a lot of voices all pulling in different directions All saying, 'No you can't go there! You've got to come here! No! What? Wait! Wait! Be! How? Do! What? Yes! No! Stop! Go! Up! Down! Come! Go! …' No, we'll all say ‘Yes!’ That's what we're doing That's where we're going That's who we're being That's who we are! That's who we really, really, Truely-ruly, Mike O'Dooley are That's who we are! That's who we are? That's who we is? That's who we am? That's who I be? That's who I am! That's me That's me! That's ME! (The tape ran out and she said, ‘That seems like an appropriate place to stop.’)
