Kepler's Laws | nosirrah

At the start of our story
In an observatory
Through a telescope once Kepler looked
You could tell by his sigh
And the gleam in his eye
That astronomy had him quite hooked
From then he would rumble
And rave on and mumble
Whenever you stopped for a chat
How watching the sun an' its
Various planets
Had finally convinced him that
By measuring angles
With slight computation 
(Using such wangles
As multiplication)
He could pinpoint the spot they'd be at

We laughed at him, we laughed at him
We said that he was rather dim
And yet he didn't make a fuss
Just quoted from Copernicus

He kept on observing
The planets go swerving
The jibes that we threw he ignored
All books that existed
(Though some were unlisted)
Through everything written he pored
On graphs he was sotted
And points that he plotted
Once his work had begun
Multiplied and divided
Until he decided
To publish his rule number one
'I now know the reasons
Why we have eclipses
And also the seasons
Is paths are ellipses
With one focus being the sun'

'Hooray for me, hooray for me
My second law comes easily
The areas swept out you'll find
Are equal for an equal time'

Oh how were stunned
By this German rotund
Whose mathematical genius shone
For he said to the prince
Who received him at Linz
'There is still much more work to be done'
He studied for hours
The various powers
Until one day travelling through France
He said 'I now see
Such ideal symmetry
That it could not arise just by chance
If you look at the square
Of the time periodic
Its proportional pair
(Oh, that sounds so melodic)
Is the cube of the sun’s mean distance'

These laws by observation proved
How Earth and all its neighbours moved
But still the reason did nonplus
Till Newton invented the Calculus
